More than 12% of the US population will develop a thyroid condition in their lifetime. While the thyroid gland is small, it produces a hormone that influences every cell, tissue, and organ in the body.
What you should know about thyroid cancer:
- Thyroid cancer affects people of all ages
- Both women and men get thyroid cancer – more than two-thirds of those who are diagnosed are women.
- A simple neck check done by a medical professional can detect a thyroid nodule.
- Thyroid cancer has many variables and types; treatment is tailored by an individual’s thyroid variables and type.
Below are a few questions to ask your doctor about thyroid health:
- What is the difference between hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism?
- What is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)?
- How is my TSH measured and what are my target numbers?
